Charlottesville’s Official Roller Derby Team
Last night, Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris proclaimed the Charlottesville Derby Dames “The Official Roller Derby Team of Charlottesville” in honor of our contributions to the community and women’s fitness, health and well-being.
Derby Dame Rox Ann Stones accepted the proclamation from Mayor Norris and in return, presented him with his very own Derby Dames’ shirt, complete with his derby name on the back: “Nunchuck Norris.”
The Dames are proud of this honor and thrilled that the city of Charlottesville recognizes our sport as a serious athletic pursuit.
As a not-for-profit organization, the team is dedicated to giving back both time and money to the Charlottesville community, supporting charities like Habitat for Humanity, CASA, The Charlottesville Free Clinic and SARA. A portion of the proceeds from every bout goes to benefit these organizations. This year, with record-breaking levels of attendance expected for the bouts at the Main St. Arena and because many of the Dames’ operating costs are covered by the generosity of local business sponsors, the Dames will be in a position to donate thousands of dollars to local charities.
Our next bout, The Brawl on the Mall, will happen on Saturday, April 30 at the Main St. Arena. A portion of the proceeds from that bout will benefit the VA Discovery Museum. Buy your tickets online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/169795 or in person at Blue Moon Diner. Support the community AND enjoy an incredible evening of roller derby in the process.
Thanks for supporting your Derby Dames, Charlottesville!
