What makes you hardcore derby? I LOVE GOOD HITS! Even when I’m on the receiving end. My bruises are my own special trophies that I love to display depending on where they are. When I put on my stockings, mini skirt, and skates and become K-OS I get the adrenaline rush that only can come from roller derby. I knew I was hooked when every conversation started and ended with derby and I started driving my car like I was jammer. I knew that I had derby running through my veins when I moved over my butter pecan ice cream to make room for ice packs in my freezer. Aleve, ace bandages, Biofreeze: Check.

What makes you a classy dame? I’m a great mom, wife, and friend(even during the season). I dedicate 8+ hours every week to volunteer work. I am currently working on furthering my education at PVCC by working on my Associates in Business Administration while going through the viticulture and enology program. I am grateful for everything and every circumstance and try to learn from them. I try not to take things for granted. I don’t judge anyone else’s heart. I try to listen and encourage when someone needs encouragement. I know how to say no and receive no.

What is your job/career outside of derby? Owner/ Operator with my husband, Noel, of From the Ground Up Landscaping.
Director of the CVBA Clothing Center in the downtown Belmont area.

Do you have any kids/pets? My Maggie is my one and only. She’s 21 this year. She went to Piedmont and VaTech. She’s amazing, gorgeous, funny, smart…… I could go on forever. She is my pride and joy and still my little girl. We call her Maggie Moodles and Mini K-OS. We have a great relationship. She thinks I’m a cool mom since I skate for the Dames. Someday, I hope to have her skating for the Dames, too. We might just be the first mother-daughter skaters for the Dames. She is as proud of me as I am of her. Tigger, my cat, is gray stripped. She’s a little crazy. She won’t drink water unless it’s on the sink. She’s 12 lbs and acts like she’s 50 the way my dog, Chewy, and her chase each other around. Chewy is a lab/ rottweiler mix. He is the most co-dependent dog I know. He’s very intelligent, too. He will play dead if you shoot him with a “finger’ gun and whine like he’s hurt all the way to the floor. You can put a treat on his nose and he’ll hold it there until you give him the o.k. then he’ll toss is up and catch it.

Who is your biggest inspiration? God. I am grateful for His love and faithfulness.

What is your life motto? Find joy in ALL circumstances.

Do you have any secret/special talents? Just ask my husband :-)

What has been your favorite derby moment so far? The PBS bout. I learned a lot looking back when I or anyone else could not get Roxy off me.

What are 3 words to describe you? Faithful, patient, compassionate

What is the one thing you can’t live without? Love. No explanation necessary.

What is your favorite food? Crab cakes and imported REAL chocolate- not the crap made in the U.S.

What is your favorite movie? My Cousin Vinny
