What makes you hardcore derby? I’ve broken both ankles (and have hardware in them), broken my nose twice (which is why you’ll almost never see me without a face shield!), and apparently broke my elbow a year ago and only recently found out…but I’m still going! I guess I love this sport.
What makes you a classy dame? Either all of my skirts/dresses that have pockets, or my unicorn-themed tee shirt collection.
What is your job/career outside of derby? I work for the State doing stuff related to Historic Preservation (so, I work with old buildings).
Do you have any secret/special talents? I can make a really convincing computer water drop sound?
What has been your favorite derby moment so far? That’s a tough one – I really love tournaments; you get to skate against, and meet, so many amazing people! BrewHaHa up in Wisconsin was really fun when I skated in that, and this past year getting to know the skaters on the Virginia All Stars at the 2017 Battle of the All Stars was swell.
What is one thing you can’t live without? Oxygen.
What is your favorite food? Suffice it to say that I don’t like arugula, anise, capers, or black licorice. Pretty much everything else is great! I do have a particular fondness for gummy-type things.
Do you have any pets? I have two wonderful kitties, Frankie and Jack. I used to have 14 year-old brine shrimp named Winky (he passed this past year), and I currently have about a thousand (?) Pyrocystis fusiformis (bioluminescent dinoflagellates) in a dinosaur-shaped, clear plastic container.
Who is your Derby Wife? May Q. Hurt (Rockford Rage) and I were derby married at Rollercon in 2009 – we have a certificate and everything! She’ll always be my first derby wife love, but who knows what the future will bring? ::suggestive eyebrow wiggle::
Who is your biggest inspiration? Hands-down, new skaters. I am constantly amazed by their dedication, resilience, and overall positive outlook on reaching their goals.
What is your life motto? My usual motto has a not-family-appropriate word in it, so I’ll slightly modify it to “Don’t be mean.” That life outlook usually serves me well.
What are 3 words to describe you? Silly. Stubborn. And (Slightly) Surly. 😀
What is your favorite movie? Anything with Jeff Goldblum in it. He’s nerdily dreamy
