Volunteers

Become part of our community

Maybe you love Roller Derby, but loathe the idea of skating and getting knocked down? Don’t worry, because there are a myriad of ways that you can help out and be involved with the team! Depending on what kind of volunteering you would like to do, there are two ways in which you can go about supporting the team.

The first kind of volunteer is a Bout Day Helper. This means that you aid the Productions Committee in setting up the track and chairs, selling merchandise, taking tickets and everything else that makes the event run efficiently – and then attend that event for free!

The second kind of volunteer is a Non-Skating Member. This means that you are a member of the Charlottesville Derby Dames who is not participating in on-skates training or bouting. They can register their unique derby name to our roster and be featured on our website, attend intraleague meetings and events, and may occasionally participate in fresh meat practices at trainer discretion. In exchange, non-skating members pay $10 a month in dues and participate actively in at least one league committee. League committees range from Training and Team Building to Finance and Community Relations, each in need of a variety of off-skates skills and specialties.

Anyone considering non-skating membership should also be aware of our Officials Training Program. Non-Skating Officials (NSOs) play essential roles in derby bouts, such as score-keeping, jam timing and penalty wrangling.

All volunteers and non-skating members must be 18 and up.

Please feel free to email contact@charlottesvillederbydames.com with any questions you may have regarding volunteering or officiating for the Derby Dames.
